Windsor and Eaton – Conqueror 1075

Windsor and Eaton – Conqueror

John Lewis on Oxford Street (London) were having a guest beers week (could have been guest foods week also, but I wasn’t paying attention) with a selection of beers coming from Berkshire. The Black IPA style stood out, can’t recall having this (or even seeing this) before. Good stuff.

Windsor and Eaton – Conqueror 1075; 7.4% abv
Aroma: Mildly toasted malts, bit of a sweet edge, a subtle ‘darker’ bread (wholemeal) and maybe the sweetness being molassesAppearance: Black, virtually no head, but what wisps are there are tan

Taste & Flavour: Heavy bitterness from start to finnish with a long duration; full bodied, quite creamy, soft on the carbonation, with a bitter-alcoholic finish; plenty of dark roasted flavour

On a blind tasting I would have have put money on this either being an Imperial Stout, or possibly an Imperial Porter. This is one seriously good beer and comes highly recommended. This has loads of depth, subtle flavour, really bitter which is pretty much what I would expect. Top stuff.
