Preamble: Already a fan of Rogue, it is a somewhat difficult task to decide which of the beers to try next. As a previous item suggests, I am a fan of beers that come in the larger bottles, especially if they are good beers; Rogue bottle a lot of their beers in 1 pint (500ml-ish) bottles. Brilliant. So, on with the Hazelnut Brown Nectar which one would be safe to assume is a Brown Ale…
The Beer: 14°, 33 IBU, 6.2% abv (although the website differs to what the bottle has to say); Dark tan in colour, light tan head, somewhat cloudy in appearance; Has a full, malted-nutty aroma that beckons the drinker temptingly; Wonderfully nutty taste, smooth to the mouth and gently bitter, has elements of fruitiness washing around.
Not that I would ever advocate overly excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, but even this bottle doesn’t contain enough (no pleasing everybody!). This is a fabulous beer and I would have no hesitation in recommending everyone to stock up on a few of these – especially if you have a liking for Brown Ale. On every level this beer is wonderful: it has exactly what it says on the label in that it is nutty; it is smooth and not too heavy on the gas/fizz; the flavours are complex, but not too fancy that they leave the essence of a brown ale behind. This really is simply an enjoyable beer. BA also likes the beer.
